Start with the website scope you need
Write down what your website must do before comparing totals. A service page that collects enquiries differs from a multi-page, bilingual website with bookings. Separate features you do not need and ask providers to add any essential features missing from their quote.
Record the pages, languages and forms included, who prepares text and images, and how many revision rounds you receive. If you need to edit content yourself, confirm how and whether that ability is included. ‘Complete website’ does not answer these questions.
- Pages and sections delivered.
- Text, images and languages included.
- Forms, bookings, payments and other essential features.
- Revisions, deadline and acceptance criteria.
Calculate first and second-year website costs
The first year includes setup plus fees for those twelve months. The second adds fees for the next twelve. Include expenses paid directly to other suppliers: domain, hosting, licences or booking tools. Count each cost once; hosting already covered by a fee should not be added again.
A fictional example: offer A charges 500 € for the build and 180 € in annual fees. Offer B charges 650 € for the build and no fees during the two years compared. A costs 680 € in year one and 860 € over two years; B costs 650 € over either period. A has a lower entry cost, but adding the fees changes the total. You still need to check both offers cover your requirements.
Use the same starting point, such as launch day. Account for introductory discounts or included months within each year. Confirm both figures include tax or both exclude it. The calculator uses the amounts exactly as you enter them.
One-off or monthly payment: a published example
Offer checked on 2 October 2026: WebAutonomos advertised its renovation-business website at 15 €/month or 349 € upfront, excluding VAT. The first year's domain was included, with renewal advertised at around 12 €/year.
15 € × 24 months = 360 € in subscription fees alone. Confirm renewal, hosting, changes and maintenance before calculating a total. Check the scope of each option separately.
This is an example of how to read a published offer; it is not a market average or a recommendation.
Setup, monthly fees and commitment periods
On 2 October 2026, IONOS published its S design service at 199 € setup plus 45 €/month, excluding VAT, with three pages and one change per quarter. It stated a minimum term of twelve months.
Setup plus fees totals 739 € over twelve months and 1.279 € over twenty-four if the monthly rate stays the same. Taxes and possible extras are excluded. Confirm renewal, handover and exit terms before comparing.
Included months and different tax treatment
WebsWellia published Impulsa at 499 € + VAT with three months of maintenance included, then from 5,99 €/month including VAT if you continued with them. We checked the offer on 2 October 2026; the launch promotion was advertised until 9 November.
At the unchanged minimum fee, maintenance costs 53,91 € in year one (9 months) and 71,88 € in year two (12). Put the fees and setup on the same VAT basis before adding them, and confirm renewal and extras.
Compare what website maintenance fees include
A maintenance plan may cover only updates and backups, include hosting or add time for content changes. These five public plans show why scope matters. We checked three providers on 3 October 2026 and calculated twelve fees at the published monthly price.
At Totus Code, the plan with intervention adds 120 € over twelve months and one hour of work per month compared with Básico. Relevandia charges hosting separately and reserves support and small tasks for Activo. Eneko Martínez lists half an hour of changes a month, accumulating up to three hours.
| Plan and source | Monthly fee | 12 fees before tax | Hosting | Included changes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Relevandia Esencial | 29 € + VAT | 348 € | Separate | None |
| Relevandia Activo | 49 € + VAT | 588 € | Separate | Small tasks; time to be agreed |
| Totus Code Básico | 35 € + tax | 420 € | Included | None |
| Totus Code Con intervención | 45 € + tax | 540 € | Included | One 1 h intervention per month |
| Eneko Martínez Mantenimiento | 50 € + VAT | 600 € | Not listed as included | 30 min per month; accumulate up to 3 h |
How to read these maintenance examples
We selected business-website plans with a monthly price visible on the provider's own page. These illustrate differences in scope; they are not a representative sample or an average Spanish price. Each name links to the original offer. The download preserves the dates and sources.
The twelve-month amounts are monthly fee × 12, keeping the published price and excluding taxes. They are not a website's total cost: creation, initial repairs, separate hosting and other expenses still need adding. Totus Code states three months of continuity before downgrading a plan. Check each offer's cancellation terms too.
Keep costs that are still unknown visible
‘To be confirmed’ is different from ‘included’. If a licence price is unknown or maintenance might be mandatory, leave it outstanding and ask before deciding. In the calculator, a blank field keeps the total pending. Enter 0 only when you have confirmed the expense is included or does not apply.
Get exclusions in writing. Extra pages, translations, store setup or another integration may change the scope. A useful quote makes clear what is delivered now and what needs a separate assessment.
Check the handover and your ability to change provider
Before hiring, confirm the domain registrant, the accounts you control and the files or access delivered. Ask what happens if you stop a subscription: what keeps working, which services end and what is needed to move the website. Add the answers beside each quote.
With costs, scope and handover together, you can judge which proposal fits. Copy the comparison to keep it or request clarification. To include Webs del Camp, bring our publicly listed prices and scope into the same calculator.
